After FDR died in office, Congress and the states adopted the 22nd Amendment (ratified in 1951) to limit presidents to two elected terms. Now, the man who’s been busy challenging Roosevelt’s mantle as America’s most liberal president — one Barack Obama — thinks that he could have won a third term, too — if only that pesky Constitution didn’t get in the way.
After he made his remarks, however, the man who will replace him — President-elect Donald Trump — hit back with a tweet that brought home the blunt reality of just how unpopular President Obama really is.
According to The New York Times, the president made the remarks while he was being interviewed by former adviser David Axelrod on the latter’s podcast “The Axe Files.” (A polite note to Mr. Axelrod: Whatever advertising copywriter you paid for that preposterous title, do ask for a refund, posthaste )
