Poll Context: Both Beyonce and Kanye have been making highly political and racially charged music albums, videos and performances. Earlier this year, Kanye issued a statement calling for white people to stop commenting on black music:
Kanye West: “To Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, New York Times, and any other white publication. Please do not comment on black music anymore.”
Beyonce stirred huge controversy during her Superbowl appearance with what many described as anti-police, despite getting a police escort to the stadium,
During the Super Bowl, the National Sheriff’s Association scheduled time during it’s annual Washington, D.C. conference at the J.W. Marriott to watch the Super Bowl.
But just as Beyonce performed the anti-cop lyrics from the new song Formation, they turned off the sound and turned their backs to the performance.
Beyonce just released her latest album, Lemonade, which is again highly political and racial in nature. Huffington Post just ran a somewhat fawning feature on the album claiming that it is not for white people to analyse,
…”but to attempt to interpret a film and album that was made for and meant to empower black women simply does not make sense. We have to understand this: Lemonade was not made for us. It’s not about white people. Therefore we do not have the right to claim it and decide what it means.”
