Poll Context: Donald Trump was upset by the process that allowed Ted Cruz to take all the delegates in Colorado without a vote being cast. He called it a “rigged” system; which is leading to protests ( “The Colorado Republican Party shamefully silenced its voters this election season,” read the details of an upcoming event posted to Facebook by the Colorado Votes Matter group.) and what many feel is an undemocratic message that will be heard around the world. After the result was announced, the Cruz campaign sent out a fund raising message that said,
Ted Cruz swept all of the delegates available in Colorado on Friday and is poised to win more here on Saturday as he seeks to upend Donald Trump’s march to the Republican presidential nomination.
The momentum is on his side and we could not have done this without your support. According to RealClearPolitics, gap between Ted Cruz and Hillary Clinton has been narrowing over the past several weeks, with Hillary Clinton leading by only 3 points. Donald Trump does not stand a chance to beat Hillary in November with a difference of 10 points! Will you support Ted Cruz?
George Athanasopoulos, a Republican candidate for Colorado’s 7th Congressional District said,
“The grassroots made the decision that Ted Cruz was the best candidate for us, and the grassroots made the decision to come out for Cruz and absolutely swept the table,”
but many cried in response,
It isn’t ‘grassroots’ if the people aren’t allowed to vote!
So although the system was in place to win Colorado without a vote from Coloradans themselves, and “Ted Cruz swept all of the delegates available…”, was that just a good ground game or was he complicit is stealing delegates?
