Senate Takes First Procedural Step To Dismantle Obamacare

The Senate on Tuesday took its first action toward repealing Obamacare as Sen. Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., introduced a resolution that will allow a repeal to move forward this month.

GOP Senators are using a budget resolution to accomplish their goal of repealing parts of Obamacare. Various committees are required to report back by Jan. 27 how their approach to dismantling Obamacare will impact taxes and spending, with Senate action expected at that time.
That tactic means that instead of the 60 votes necessary to pass legislation, only a simple majority will be required. Republicans hold 52 seats in the 100-seat Senate.
