Poll Context: Donald Trump decided to skip CPAC this year and has come in for much criticism for doing so. Many are saying that this is how quickly he turns his back on conservatism but others, including Newt Gingrich, say it was the right decision. He was roundly attacked at the recent Fox debate, not only by the other candidates but also by Fox who, by the way, gave Cruz and Rubio a very easy time. The CPAC conference is filled with Establishment speakers and supporters who would love the opportunity to attack Trump again. Although he has grown the republican base by huge numbers, they are more Trump supporters than just plain republicans, and that terrifies the establishment. On hearing of Trump’s announcement to skip CPAC, Newt Gingrich tweeted, “Trump was right to skip CPAC. The votes are in Kansas not Washington. Why give the anti-trump activists a target”. What do you think? Was he right to skip CPAC?
