He became emotional discussing the fracas in Rio and how his teammates, Gunner Bentz and Jack Conger were held in Brazil while he returned to the U.S.
The swimmer admitted he was drunk when he gave a TV interview to Billy Bush on the Copacabana on the morning after the incident – when he claimed he was robbed at gunpoint at a Rio gas station with his three teammates
And the disgraced Olympic swimmer also admitted his behavior was ‘immature’ and took ‘full responsibility’ for the drunken escapade that turned into an international incident.
In the most striking point of the interview, Lochte’s eyes appeared to well up, he choked up and appeared to be on the verge of tears when asked about how he felt about leaving his team team mates stranded in Brazil.
